Fuel Sipping Record Breaker!!!

We all waited patiently to hear the numbers of VW's new hybrid Jetta before it was released. When VW claimed a combined fuel efficency of 45, we were happy. Then VW went further and announced that the car would still do 0-60 in just 9 seconds (in a hybrid?!), and we were VERY happy. Now this new Jetta has surpassed it's own goals by posting 49.9 mpg, and I'm the happiest I've been in a long time.

VW started it's first "Think Blue. Championship" this year, a rally spanning 402 miles from San Francisco to Santa Monica. Top drivers from all over the world flew in to try their hand at setting a new fuel efficiency record, and Frank Zauft of Germany took the prize. Over the course of the rally, Zauft experienced uphill and downhill situations, as well as both highway and city driving. The overall average of the vehicle clocked in at a massive 49.9 mpg, just shy of his 50 mpg goal. It may have been a tenth short, but it's the best out there and we'll take it ANY day. Congrats, Frank!

Launch!!!!

I got the opportunity to drive the car (and the competition) and let me tell you, this thing MOVES!!! Sometimes you forget it's a hybrid (until you see the energy readouts on the MFI and the RNS 315 Navigation)! These are a few images of us training on the vehicle:

2013 Jetta Changes!!!!

Great news for those in the market for the 2013 Jetta, POWER SEATS!!!!! Starting in 2013, all Jettas, trim level SE and up, will feature a power seat back adjustment for both driver and passenger seats. For those who are in the market for the SEL, or the newest trim level SEL w/navigation; you'll get to enjoy 6 way adjustable power driver's seats. Nice!!

Another nice change is that new trim level. Volkswagen has split up the SEL into two trim levels, and has done away with the SEL Premium.  But don't worry Premium lovers, if you're looking for those two-tone sport seats, you can still get them optionally in the SELs. The SEL will no longer have navigation or Fender Premium audio. These will be reserved for the new SEL w/Navigation trim level. And one more bonus for us previous VW owners; the soft-touch dash returns in all of the SEL and diesel powered cars. Great job, VW!!!!!!

A Look at the Jetta Hybrid

The Hybrid is Coming......

ICRS!

Today's safety tech tip is going to be on Volkswagen's ICRS, or Intelligent Crash Response System. This is an incredible system featured on all of our cars, that keeps you safe AFTER the accident. Let's try a little test. Go out to your car, sit in the driver's seat, and turn on the ignition. Now pull the fuse for the fuel pump, turn on your hazard lamps, unlock all of your doors, and turn on the interior cabin lights. How long did that take? Now do it again, faster. FASTER! Keep practicing until you can do all four in milliseconds, then we'll start training you on how to do it during an accident. Or you could just buy a Volkswagen. With ICRS, the car will automatically do all of these things for you, as soon as the car detects an accident. That means the other traffic will see your car stranded (hazard lights) and can avoid you, there is no risk of fire because we cut the fuel supply to the engine, when rescue crews arrive they can see you (cabin lights on), and when they try to get you out its easy (the doors are unlocked)! 2016 Jetta CC?

Volkswagen has just released some images for what they are calling the concept for the 2016 Golf CC. If the car is ever slated to ship satateside, it will hit our shores as the 2016 Jetta CC. If  released, this would be a niche car suited to Jetta owners who are looking for a little more pizazz out of their economy vehicle. We could probably expect to see these cars fitted with VW's next generation of turbocharged engine, and it will ride on the same platform as the 3rd generation Audi A3 and Golf VII. The car will most likely be fitted to both FWD manual and Direct Shift Gearboxes, with the possibility of a 4motion option still in the air. Pricing will probably be in the high $20's to low $30's, and I think it'll be a huge success.

It's Electric!

For years, Volkswagen has dominated the diesel market and shattered records. But the people want more. Here it is! Volkswagen's 2013 Jetta Hybrid will go on sale this year. Featuring a 1.4 liter turbocharged TSI engine, expect to see around 150 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. But wait, theres more. The electric motor is good for another 27 hp, bringing total power output to over 170 and making it the fastest hybrid in its class, with a 0-60 of about 9 seconds. Das efficiency.

Move Over Hybrids!!! TDI is Here!!!

That's right, the most fuel efficient car in North America is a diesel, not a hybrid. The record was set in 2008 (using the same TDI engine used in todays Jetta) over a 9,419 mile journey across the continental United States. Ready for the numbers? 58.82 mpg average!

This wasn't a downhill cruise with the wind to your back either, this was a test of real world driving conditions. The trip passed through New York, NY; Rutland, VT; Toledo, OH; Des Moines, IA; Spearfish, SD; Missoula, MT; Winnemucca, NV; Santa Monica, CA; Durango, CO; Oklahoma City, OK; Mount Vernon, IL; and Ponchatoula, LA; before finishing up 20 days later in Beckley, WV after using only 11.04 tanks of fuel!

At the current price of diesel, thats about 6.9 cents per mile! Oh, and did I mention the car MOVES?! 236 lb-ft of torque will launch you to your desired speed more quickly than the hybrids out there (and quite a few gasoline cars, too). Das Efficiency.

The 2012 Jetta

Theres a lot of talk going around about the new Volkswagen line-up, and a lot of the buzz is surrounding the 2012 Jetta! The car was recently re-designed in 2011, and those 2011 customers have been giving us a lot of great feedback about the most comfortable Jetta we've ever produced.

This new vehicle is the perfect combination of efficiency, performance, and comfort; and with available touchscreen navigation, Fender premium audio, and Bluetooth audio, it's got everybody talking! (Hands-free of course). This Jetta offers a class-leading three feet of rear leg room, and 15.5 cubic feet of class leading trunk space (the trunk may need its own zip code).

The car also offers one of the smoothest rides in its class, staying to its Jetta name (the German word for the jet stream, hinting at a smooth and breezy ride). That, coupled with VW's Carefree Maintenance and standard safety features makes this the best Jetta yet. But what else would you expect from a Volkswagen? Just about the only thing unexpected with this car is how low the price is!
